A minimum dataset was extracted for all admissions with any of the following codes: B26 (mumps), N45 (orchitis and epididymitis), A87 (viral meningitis), N70 (oophoritis), and K85 (acute pancreatitis) (19 ).
The start date was the earliest feasible one after the introduction of the new management database in 2005; the end date allowed at least a year for cases to have been investigated by the GMC before the dataset was extracted for analysis in April 2009.
