For the TKA groups in Study 1 and Study 2, preoperative (morning of surgery and following a 10-h fast) and postoperative (day 1 and day 2; the morning after surgery and following a 10-h fast during inpatient care) blood chemistries were performed at a hospital laboratory (blinded) and results were extracted from an electronic database warehouse.
