Principal features of the tool are: automatic generation of generalized mass action model from the chemical reactions involved in the system; automatic estimation of the initial guesses and bounds for the parameter values; estimate of the propagation of the experimental errors from the input data to the parameter estimates; estimation of the level of noise in the input data.
For the final and, arguably, crucial test of the above conclusions, we employed the data on protein abundance of proteins in the plant Arabidopsis thaliana (kindly provided by Christian von Mering) paired with the fruit fly data to repeat the estimation of the relative contributions of the constraint and translation rate factors to the ER (supplementary table S6, Supplementary Material online).
Studies were included when the following criteria were met: (1) published in English with the full text available, (2) the use of a case control design or a cohort design, and (3) the availability of data to allow the estimation of the hazard ratio (HR) for survival with a 95% CI.
We assessed this possibility by jointly modelling the BMI data of adults and adolescents, in effect allowing for a correlation between the likelihood of adults and that of adolescents living in the same area being overweight, and using the adult data to supplement the estimation of area effects for adolescents (and hence the variation between areas) in the univariable multilevel models.
We applied the method in "Pore-fluid pressure field with the regional stress pattern" section to these data to consider the estimation errors of the stress field in this simplified manner, and estimated the pore-fluid pressure field.
Using external data to improve the estimation of the common variance for a particular problem highlights the significance of access to public data repositories like the gene expression omnibus (GEO) [ 26].
The criteria for inclusion were: (1) articles dealing with CD133 expression and either prognostic factors or overall survival (OS) of CRC; (2) articles containing sufficient data to allow the estimation of an odds ratio (OR) or a relative risk (RR) of OS; (3) articles in the English language; and (4) articles published as original research.
However, the minimum value for the pollutant in those areas is 10 μg/m, so in fact the part of the curve below that point is an extrapolation, whereas between 10 and 30 μg/m only a small proportion of the total data contribute to the estimation, making estimates unstable.
The difference between the training and the test data is so significant that the regression functions established by the training data cannot work well for the test data, leading to the estimation performance deterioration.
