The respective data for the cut-off point "20% improvement of total score" were 92%, 35%, 81%, and 61%.
In addition if the stringency for DE gene selection is weakened for the microarray data by moving the cut off point to corrected p-value of ≤0.08, the number of genes detected as DE in common by the two platforms increases to 426 from 274 (not shown).
For evaluation, data above the cut-off value of 20 units/ml were considered positive, complying with the manufacturer's recommendation.
For sorghum, due to the lack of enough expression data for calculating the cut-off r-value, r < 0.5 was used as an indicator since r-values from 0.5 to 0.59 have been used for criteria to determine the diverged expression.
An important feature of Bayesian learning is that it is not sensitive to the ratio of actives in the dataset; the ROC scores in Figure 2 illustrate this point: essentially the same model is obtained from the Scripps percent inhibition data, whether the cut-off for activity is set to 10% or to 80% or to any value in between.
