Comparative data for the hearing population were derived from the HSE 2009, 2010 and 2011, 9 and the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) 2012 10 for all GP surgeries in England.
The authors acknowledge that the study had three limitations: the small sample size, the inability to measure exposure to high levels of toluene over a long work history, and the lack of available data for estimating hearing loss caused by exposure to toluene alone.
