In spite of the abundance of data for a contribution of AS to the pathogenesis of enterococcal endocarditis, our studies have shown that antibodies raised against a surface-exposed, N-terminal domain of AS are not protective against endocarditis in a rabbit model [6], [13].
This shows how important the gradient data are to balance the correction errors made when correcting the vector data for other contributions than those from the lithospheric field.
In GWAS data, epistatic effects are generally undetectable, probably because of the study sizes are too small to represent such higher dimensional cross terms, so data for these contributions are not available.
All this said, it has to be mentioned that the bulk of our results is in line with previous country-specific analyses with finer data (for a recent contribution, see Hospido and Moral-Benito (2014) and the references quoted therein).
