We thank the numerous research design and data collection team members, as well as the men and women who participated of this study.
Throughout the data collection phase members of the research team (MR, EP, EMP, MK) monitored the quality of the data and provided feedback to the interviewers.
Taken together, these figures demonstrate that a diverse sample was recruited which enabled data collection from members of the general public variously impacted by the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.
This has not prevented authors from making bold assertions about its extent and characteristics within studies which report no data collection with members of the public (see for example [ 9]).
We also thank Saga Høgheim who carried out most of the practical tasks relating to data collection, and members of the expert group that contributed to the development of the questionnaire and survey design.
We held a debrief meeting at the end of data collection with members of the district health team and Concern staff to give quick feedback on emerging issues from the field.
The process has several stages: familiarisation with the community; data collection involving members of the community; data analysis to sort out major problems and root causes; theatre creation to prioritise issues to be performed and the kind of art forms to be used, performance; post-performance discussion; follow-up; and evaluation.
Data collection by members of the research team (MG, JS, JG) who were unconnected with the clinical teams, involved multiple qualitative methods: facilitated workshops with development teams, collection of documents/records, one-to-one interviews and focus groups with multiple stakeholders, and observation of ward practices.
We thank staff members of beamline BL17U and BL19U at SSRF for assistance in data collection, and staff members of Biomedical Core Facility, Fudan University for their help on biochemical analyses.
