AirCell is taking a terrestrial approach, transmitting data from a plane to a collection of 80 towers (expanding to 100).
A range image is a projection of the single, directional point cloud (which is point cloud acquired from single direction—so-called 2.5D data) onto a plane, therefore uniqueness cannot be maintained for full 3D objects (formed from numerous directional clouds of points integrated in a single model).
The standard data indicate a plane width of 0.306 nm at both (200) and (020), and 0.217 nm at (220), with an angle of 45 deg for both A-O-B and B-O-C and 90 deg for A-O-C.
That's because it is hard to direct data to a plane 30,000 feet in the air.
And why is it that in an era of high-speed 4G broadband, when 40-year-old technology can transmit data back from beyond the edge of the solar system, we still have to send ships and divers to retrieve data from a plane, rather than simply transmitting it in real time?
In fact, the anisotropic voxel dimensions are undesirable for many reasons, most importantly because they preclude reformatting of data in a plane different from the original one without severe penalties.
