In addition to dancing, Taeuber-Arp's contribution to the Dada genre included a series of wooden heads ("Dada heads"), which she fashioned out of hat stands and on which she painted stylized geometric faces, including one of Jean Untitledd [Dada Head, Portrait of Hans Arp], 1918).
Emerging amid the wholesale slaughter of World War I, Dada was the heading for a series of incendiary acts at various clubs and cabarets — noise as music, nonsense as poetry — that managed to be both utopian and nihilistic.
As such he may be seen as both Dada's theorist and head sapper – except that Dada would never have accepted a leader and Tzara rejected hierarchy or system.
