MDM, a props workshop well known in the art world for their work for Kapoor, Marc Quinn, the Chapman brothers and Damien Hirst, have spent months in their London workshop building two long wooden cylinders, covering them with polystyrene and working the surface into a bumpy, moon-like texture, or that of a beaten piece of meat.
On top of the soil pool, glassine paper was placed and a 2.3 kg weight with 2.5″ diameter cylinder covering the soil and rested for one minute to force the soil into the fabric.

More than 200 impact tests results on actual cylinders are gathered and a comprehensive analysis is performed; covering a wide range of cylinders characteristics (volume, pressure, liner material, geometry, manufacturer…) and testing conditions (facilities, inner pressure, impact energy…).
In effect, there are an infinite number of overlapping cylinders of different size and shape, jointly covering the entire study region, where each cylinder reflects a possible cluster.
Using a cylinder follower (a small brass tube), push the cylinder through the assembly to remove the sleeve covering it and then remove the cylinder.
