Modern nonnarcotic anti-inflammatory analgesic salicylates, such as aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), and other anti-inflammatory analgesics, such as acetaminophen, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs; e.g., ibuprofen), and cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors (e.g., celecoxib), are less potent than opiates but are nonaddictive.
