Last week I wrote about how cash-strapped state schools are cutting courses that cost more to teach, which unfortunately also happen to be the classes that are most likely to get students jobs (nursing, engineering, etc).
The taskforce recommended better pay for academics, changes to the funding formula for STEM subjects by the funding councils to dissuade universities from cutting courses, and a greater priority given to the refurbishment of science labs.
In an e-mailed response to questions, Dr. Manfredi replied that, "the Faculty of Arts is not cutting courses but rather streamlining its course offering in order to increase the proportion of Arts courses and students taught by permanent, full-time faculty members instead of temporary course lecturers".
