Finally, we give some dispersion curves for a wide range of lay angles and analyze in detail properties of cut-off frequency, mode separation and mode transition for elastic wave propagation in the helical waveguides.
It is found that ADT performs well for the cut-on acoustic modes generated by the entropy-blade interaction but its accuracy suffers for the cut-off acoustic modes, which could impact indirect combustion noise predictions for turbines with closely spaced blade rows.
The solution should not only prove to be a useful benchmark for computational aeroacoustic models, but also enable a designer to continue to use multiple-scales theory to examine sound transmission even when cut-on cut-off transitional modes are present.
