The two-mode models for homogeneous reactors have many similarities with the classical two-phase models for heterogeneous catalytic reactors, with the transfer coefficient concept (between surface and mixing cup concentrations, CS and Cm, respectively) being replaced by that of an exchange coefficient (between 〈C〉 and Cm).
Later during cup formation, especially at the base of the cup, concentrations of the early signals decrease and levels of DAG, PKCε, active Rac2, Rac1 and Arf1 increase (Beemiller et al., 2006; Botelho et al., 2000; Hoppe and Swanson, 2004).
These ratios remained unchanged for IV/V pairs even when forced by CuP oxidation, whereas for the TM I mutants higher CuP concentrations could force complete dimer capture (data not shown).
For the isothermal case, these models are described by a pair of equations involving two modes, namely, the spatially averaged (〈C〉) and the mixing-cup (Cm) concentration vectors.

Here's a more complex example: If we wanted to dilute 2/3 cup of concentrate to 1/4 its initial concentration, we would add 2 cups of water, because 2/3 cup is 1/4th of 2&2/3 cups total liquid.
