Our results show extensive changes in gene-level protein production between in vivo-derived slender BF (slBF) and insect midgut stages (procyclic cultured forms, PCF), greater in extent and magnitude than changes in mRNA abundance.
For many of the classical fruit trees, there is a population of wild or semi wild forms in the vicinity of cultivated areas or in forest habitats (Ladizinsky 1999; Stephan et al. 2003) and it appears to be difficult to distinguish between true, wild forms, escapees, and hybrids between wild and cultured forms.

The T. brucei ALG12 gene (TbALG12) encodes a Dol-P-Man:Man7GlcNAc2-PP-Dol -α1-6-mannosyltransferase. We describe here the transitions in gene expression that occur during differentiation of in-vitro cultured bloodstream forms to procyclic forms.
Three of the five sets were derived from in vitro culture under highly standardized conditions: log-phase cultured bloodstream forms (cBF), log-phase cultured procyclic forms (PF-log), and stationary-phase procyclic forms (PF-stat) (see Additional file 1).
To date, a number of studies have investigated the differences in mRNA expression profile between cultured procyclic forms and laboratory adapted bloodstream forms, which have lost the ability to generate stumpy forms [ 37, 38].
