Detica enjoys close ties with the government and is consistently promoted by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), a government department created to "enhance the competitiveness of companies in Britain through overseas trade and investments".
Today, ministers in charge of competitiveness issues endorsed a legal package to create the unitary patent, which will provide uniform legal protection in 25 European countries.
There still must be an intense effort to create competitiveness in the euro zone, to help the lagging nations of southern Europe liberalize their economies and labor markets, to bring down manufacturing costs and to produce growth.
Gift-giving, for example, is a lovely tradition but can become extravagant and excessive, creating inter-personal competitiveness and financial stress.
"Inflation has eaten up almost all of the competitiveness created by devaluing," says Miguel Kiguel, the director of EconViews, a consultancy.
