ABSOLUTELY NO: white bread toast (breaks down into sugars too easily), bacon (too fatty, not enough protein), bagels (high calorie carbs, bloating, especially with cream cheese!), or breakfast sandwiches (crap stacked between white bread! NO!).
We would like to officially present Take it or Leave it with Bruce Gilden, VICE's first photo critique show where Bruce tells up-and-coming photographers if their work is transcendent, total crap, or somewhere in-between. .
It's like a crap DJ switching between two completely unrelated records; both are fine if you're on hold to the council about your bins, but it's not exactly take-your-top-off-in-the-club stuff.
Artists today mostly do ironic comments on mass culture; they adopt the modes and imagery of mass culture and then re-serve them in a slightly tweaked way, so it's not immediately clear to an outsider that there's really any difference between one thing and the other - between pop crap and high art.
In twenty years time a teenager's going to walk into a record shop and between the crap and toss they're going to find a gem.
In each episode of the show, Bruce will tell you if your work is transcendent or total crap, or somewhere in between, with the goal of promoting conversation around good photography.
