After termination of CPB, levels increased gradually and peaked at 12 hours postoperatively (10 P.M. to 1 A.M .. Cortisol levels were inversely correlated to leptin levels (p = 0.016).
Objectives: To investigate plasma levels of the ββ isomer of S-100 protein and to assess the relationship between post cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) levels of this marker and a variety of perioperative and patient factors in children undergoing cardiac surgery.
After CPB, levels of FII, FVII, FIX, and FX declined from baseline by 32%to48%8%, and PCC fully or partially reversed those deficits.
Shortly before the removal of CPB, levels of heparin >2 units ml−1 may be present; therefore, clinicians must be informed whether the Clauss assay used in their unit is sensitive to heparin, and how this may affect the results of the Clauss fibrinogen measurement.
PP was reduced by the crystalloid primed CPB, it increased after CPB, but did not reach the pre-CPB level.
Measurements and Main Results: Leptin levels during CPB decreased to 50% of pre-CPB levels (p < 0.01).
Compared with the post-CPB levels, FIX increased 13.0% (CI, 5.7 18.0%) after PCC administration, but nevertheless remained 33.8% (CI, 10.6 44.1%) below baseline.
Measurements and Main Results: After initiation of CPB, MDA level rose markedly in the cyanotic groups compared with the acyanotic group (210 ± 118% v 52 ± 34%, p < 0.05), which indicated the depletion of antioxidants.
Significantly lower D-dimer, PAI-1, and creatine-kinase levels were observed in patients in the TA group within the first 24 hours after CPB; lower levels of STNFR and IL-6 were observed in the TA group, but these differences were not significant.
During CPB, aprotinin levels declined further, but no significant difference was observed between patients who received hemofiltration and those who did not.
After heparin administration and before connection to CPB, TFPI levels increased significantly in comparison with preoperative values (5.97 ± 0.48 U/l; p < 0.01) as shown in Figure 2b.
