Common indicators generated from cross-sectional surveys include coverage levels of preventive interventions (ITNs and IRS), fever case management practices, health-seeking behaviors, health status (under five mortality rate and anemia), and parasite prevalence for clinical and subclinical malaria (definitions provided in Table 1).
Unfortunately, no system for monitoring the coverage and intensity of preventive interventions has been put in place until recently in either city, so there is insufficient information to explore the relationship between differentials in transmission trends and past preventive efforts.
A close follow-up of the transhumance patterns could inform health planners on optimal timing and location of preventive interventions to maximise coverage with scarce resources.
