Many papers have been written about the need for increasing interdisciplinary teaching of mathematics and biology and the results and challenges of attempting courses that integrated these disciplines (Steitz, 2003; Bialek and Botstein, 2004; Brent, 2004; Gross et al., 2004; May, 2004; Campbell et al., 2007; Perez-Iratxeta et al., 2007; Knight et al., 2008; Pevzner and Shamir, 2009; Pursell, 2009).
This study investigates whether students who learn accounting topics in courses organized by function (e.g., financial and managerial) structure their knowledge differently than students who learn the same topics in courses that integrate across functions.
