She again finished fourth in the 10,000 metres, in the 2001 track world championship; she then charted a course toward the marathon, training in the Pyrenees, where she logged up to 225 km (about 140 miles) per week in training.

They also set aside three rooms in the stadium with beds and light operating equipment for emergencies (most were minor, including one "wound caused by a hat-pin" to a female gymnast), and five medical stations were created along the course of the marathon.
I of course knew the marathon was happening (certain streets had been closed throughout the weekend to accommodate the forthcoming race), but it is not an event that I personally follow.
Of course, training for the marathon in the heat and humidity of a Washington summer is tough.
Any course that exceeds the marathon length of 26.2 miles qualifies as an ultra, though many events focus on distances of 50 kilometers, 100 kilometers and 100-plus miles.
The marathon course is a loop course, starting and ending at Grant Park.
In addition to a start and finish at the park, the course takes marathon runners on a two-lap course of Anaheim.
