The Muslim Scholars' Council, a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, is ensconced in Baghdad's vast Mother-of-All-Battles mosque, whose huge marble map still shows Kuwait as part of Iraq.
The drop comes as some councils shut branches in an attempt to save money.
On Tuesday, Barnet council handed the branch keys over to the trustees of Friern Barnet Community Library.
"This is about politics, not about religion," said Mahmood al-Mashhadany, a spokesman for the council's Salafiya branch.
One motion which is listed for definite discussion, submitted by the BMA's London regional council – its biggest branch – seeks a vote of no confidence in Lansley.

The two tougher movements also triumphed in elections to the council's regional branches.
In my Council district, six branches have received computer technology, books, other materials, new lighting, handicapped accessibility, among other improvements.
Council worker Lee Sprake, joint branch secretary of the Portsmouth Unison branch, said: "Potentially my new year present is that I'm going to receive notice, it's due on the 5th or 7th of January.
In January 2007, the city council decided that a branch was to be built during construction at Nørrebro, to allow a future branch line from the City Circle Line towards Brønshøj.
So, after 41 years membership of the party, including as a branch chair, council candidate and campaigner, I have resigned.
