The study meets a well-recognised need for information on end-of-life costs to inform service commissioning [ 5, 8, 10– 12] and provides unique information on whole system utilisation of services in the days/weeks leading up to death.
Information about consumption of resources will be gathered in parallel with the collection of data about the effectiveness of the intervention; therefore, primary data will be obtained in terms of effectiveness and costs to inform the economic evaluation.
