To take into account differences according to the hosts' ages, the population was divided into 3 age classes corresponding to young children (0 2 years), older children (2 15 years) and adults (>15 years).
Four models, corresponding to young people's and parents' responses were developed.
Mice were either 2, 11, 22 or 25 months of age, corresponding to young adult, mature adult, early old or advanced old mice, respectively.
In so doing, we found that the trends for male and female evolving maturation and growth traits held, but with this more severe trade-off female maturation parameters corresponding to young ages evolved to increase from initial conditions.
We further sequenced the 24 genomes corresponding to young and old Δ8 cells after 2, 4, and 6 cycles, similarly to the procedure described above for WT cells (Table 2; Figs S1 and S4).
For example, our model suggested that targeting large fish at intermediate to high fishing mortality could lead to small decreases in maturation parameters corresponding to young ages and considerable declines in genetically determined initial somatic growth rates; together these traits fostered a potential for early maturation and slow growth rate.

In baseline simulations, selection on maturation parameters corresponding to younger ages favored lower threshold sizes for maturation (Fig. 2a).
Since age [ 64] and education [ 65] seem to affect IGT performance, participants were included only if their age fell inside the range of 18 34 years (corresponding to the young adults group in [ 64]) and were enrolled in a first-level college degree ("Laurea Triennale", corresponding to 13 15 years of education).
To generate null distributions of SWAD and D, we performed 5,000 iterations of a Monte Carlo simulation by sampling with replacement two sets of 200 RILs (corresponding to the young and old pools, with 200 haploid genomes the minimum number of copies in each sample, cf. supplementary table S1, Supplementary Material online) for each subpopulation.
Once the age of the young fraction is determined, the proportion of young water in the mixture can be determined from the ratio of the tracer concentration of the sample to the concentration expected for an unmixed sample of age corresponding to the young-fraction age.
Another group of ants, the callows, corresponding to the youngest individuals in the colony, have a similarly low catalase activity, further indicating that stress resistance or age and levels of enzymatic antioxidants are not positively correlated.
