Notably, regions corresponding to localisation of salivary glands were also strongly positive for luminescence, which is a classical distribution for MMTV-driven expression of the transgene [ 18, 19].
Only immuno-staining compatible with the known biological function and corresponding subcellular localisation of each antigen was considered as being evaluable as marker expression: membranous staining in the case of E-cadherin, GLUT-1 and CAIX, and nuclear staining for Ki67.
Indeed, we identified images where there were clear clusters of incorrect localisation corresponding to a specific visual feature in the image (Fig. 5), suggesting the detection response was based on an incorrect identification (i.e. of the distracting feature).
