Although one explanation might be that the statistics were only weakly correlated, Figure S10 shows evidence of strong correlation among some statistics.
This indicates that although a majority of variables characterizing an ecological function at the species and phylogenetic (functional) group levels were in general positively correlated (Figure 2), these variables are not as strongly correlated as those measured at the community and ecosystem levels.
In VAT, linear regression analysis identified 77 genes (89 probesets) that were positively correlated with body weight and 10 (11 probesets), which were negatively correlated (Figure 6B). Figure 7 shows the expression pattern of these genes in each group and their classification in specific biological functions.
Note that even in this case, there are distinct miRNA-target populations that are either positively or negatively correlated (Figure 3, panels C and D); the overall average correlation is negative because the relative abundance of positively and negatively correlated pairs is inverted compared to that in our dataset.
A comparison between 4C data obtained with the untreated and α-amanitin treated samples showed that these are highly correlated (Figure 4A)(τ = 0.8 on average; Spearman's rank correlation).
