Brett Dignam's home was winterized in 1985, when she moved there from a condominium in Milford, though she said the four-bedroom, which cost $285,000, had "little corner closets with hooks," summer-cottage style.
Keep floors, corners, closets and crawl spaces dry and free of leaks.
She was in her room, on her bed, posters of bands she'd outgrown staring down from the walls, her high-school books on two shelves in the corner, the closet door flung open on all the clothes she'd once wanted so desperately she could have died for each individual pair of boots or the cashmere sweaters that felt so good against her skin.
"Everybody should have a small backpack in the corner of closet filled with essentials," says Bradford.

At the more modest end of the market — at least by Manhattan and Brooklyn standards — developers eager to squeeze in every square inch of living space sometimes cut corners on closets.
James H. Wendorf, executive director of the National Center for Learning Disabilities, said: "We're very concerned that students with disabilities are being hidden, pushed into corners and closets and not really brought into the assessment process.
Indoors, look for the webs in dark corners of closets, under the bed and in cluttered areas of the basement and attic.
Look in the back corners of closets, under the sink, behind the refrigerator, in cracks in the wall and in any other dark, hidden places.
Cover and shake the jars well, then tuck them into the back corner of a closet.
