As a core director of VBS, she currently finds herself in India, documenting sex workers, particularly grand cows and getting sworn at by the girl above.
"The collaborations facilitated by the center make possible many new projects," says core director Andrew Olshan, a professor of epidemiology.
It has to be core and directors need to be held to account for this as much as for financial profitability.
But like many core facility directors, Potter also has the chance to use the equipment to conduct research, a privilege also enjoyed by Ralph J. Garippa, director of the RNAi Core Facility at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center MSKCCC) in New York City.
"These folks are preying upon distressed economies to try to gain maximum amount of return," said Javier Valdés, core executive director of Latino advocacy group Make the Road New York.
