This early pottery takes its name from the impressed rope patterns (jōmon means "cord pattern") that often decorate it.
Jomon means "cord pattern," so called because pottery decoration was accomplished by pressing twisted cord against the soft clay before it was dried and fired, creating patterns of dashes on the surface, often occurring in parallel lines.
Put your paint on a paper plate or paint palette, and begin painting the jar in the spaces between the cord pattern with your sponges or brushes.
The largest group (n = 21) belong to the Hox-family of homeobox transcriptional regulators and many are known to be involved in spinal cord patterning [28].

The pale buff earthenware bowl, circa 1000 B.C., shows the pressed-cord pattern on much of its surface, from the bottom to a strip that circles it two-thirds of the way up.
Moreover, Lbx genes with a similar spinal cord expression pattern to mouse have been described in chick, zebrafish and the spotted dogfish and, in the case of zebrafish and chick, these genes are also expressed in muscle [ 14- 16].
Experiments that dated back to the 1920s indicated that in the ventral half of the spinal cord the pattern of neuronal generation is directed by cues emanating from the floor plate, a population of cells that reside at the ventral midline of the neural tube, and the notochord (reviewed in Placzek et al, 1991).
Patients with Brown-Séquard syndrome have the best prognosis of all spinal cord injury patterns.
