Teaching assistants, graduate assistants and contract faculty at York University have been on strike since 3 March.
On March 9, the university made a 'final offer' that largely appealed to senior contract faculty, a clear attempt to split the union.
"You are starting to get splits," reports Roy Lewicki, editor of Academy of Management Learning and Education: "Contract faculty teach, and tenured faculty mainly do research and are better paid".
Contract faculty can teach up to 5.5 courses, for a maximum earning potential of $64,207.
By contrast, contract faculty earn $11,221 for each course they teach.
A collective agreement was also reached between the York administration and contract faculty for improved job security.
