In adult humans, lung deflation with continuous negative airway pressure is associated with tonic diaphragm activity [ 30].
In HC, alveolar dimensions in the studied range support the idea of a continuous derecruitment simultaneous with isotropic deflation.
During the lava extrusion event from January 29 to 31, the deflation rate was moderate, whereas there was no continuous cloud echo.
It is found that during inflation (deflation) with adhesive contact, the meridional stretch exhibits continuity up to C0 (C−1) at the contact junction, while the circumferential stretch remains continuous up to C1 (C1).
After the sub-Plinian eruptions, GPS instruments initially detected a continuous inflation event occurring at approximately the same location as the previously documented syn-eruptive deflation event, although this late-stage inflation has subsequently ceased in late 2011 (Nakao et al., 2012).
In the heavily sedated and paralyzed patient, the continuous distending pressure can be titrated up the inflation limb (to recruit) and down the deflation limb (to find the least pressure required to keep the lungs open) of the static pressure volume curve, which often allows substantial reduction of mean airway pressures [ 2, 12, 13] while reducing hemo-dynamic side effects to a maximum.
In addition, the modeled source lost about 4% of the total deflation volume between the first and second eruptions but did not deflate between the second and third eruptions, indicating that a weak continuous discharge of magma had occurred during the period between the first and second sub-Plinian eruptions.
On the other hand, in the Shinmoe-dake eruptions, although a clear correlation between the chamber deflation and the magma discharge was observed, there was no exponential decay of chamber pressure and discharge rate during continuous column-forming eruptions (Figure 4).
