"continues reading" is a correct and usable phrase in written English.
You would use it after introducing a text or quotation to indicate that you (or another person) will keep reading or repeating the same text or quotation. For example: "The Bible says, 'love your neighbor as yourself,'" he said, continuing reading from the scripture.
