This question of form and content of reading and writing practices leads me to the second part of Cook-Gumperz's overall argument that is key in light of today's discussion of new media and literacy.
The GC content of reads produced by MinION™ showed an important and significant correlation (Pearson's r = 0.47, p ≤ 0.0376) against the GC content of reference values (Fig. 3a), which indicates that the GC content of 16S rDNA sequences is fairly well replicated during sequencing.
On the other hand, we found a strong correlation between the GC content of reads and the mismatch rate retrieved from alignments, which would insinuate again that GC content is a factor that influences 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing in the MinION™ platform.
These differences may affect the GC content of reads (Additional file 6: Table S4) and the coverage of specific loci, which can influence variant calling, although the global coverage was similar at the level of 10× sequencing depth (Table 1, Additional file 1: Figure S1).
We first ran five different SeqPig read statistics for a different number of computing nodes: the sample distribution of (i) the average base quality of the reads; (ii) the length of reads; (iii) bases by position inside the reads; and (iv) the GC contents of reads.
