In the next step, candidates that may contain abnormalities are coarsely detected using pattern recognition techniques.
Experts fixate on lesions, or other regions of interest, faster and for longer than Novices (Kundel, Nodine, Conant, & Weinstein, 2007; Nodine, Kundel, Lauver, & Toto, 1996) and, in clear images, spend more time fixating regions that are most likely to contain abnormalities (Kundel, 1974).
