FIA parameters (sample volume, flow rate, distance between injection valve and sensor) have been optimised in terms of high throughput, minimum dispersion, fluid consumption, sensitivity and reproducibility.
However, automotive vision still faces several open challenges in terms of optoelectronic-performance, size, reliability, power consumption, sensitivity, multi-camera synchronisation, interfacing and cost.

Since the conventional metrics, such as energy-per-bit, does not enable to assess all the critical WUR parameters, we have proposed the new figure-of-merit which accounts for all the energy consumption, sensitivity, and the data rate of a WUR.
Alternative linear models were tested, with devaluation sensitivity as the dependent variable, including general task comprehension (the number of times that participants failed the instruction comprehension test) and consumption sensitivity as predictors.
Individual differences in consumption sensitivity, like devaluation sensitivity, were quantified as the difference between the consumption of valued and devalued coins, in which a score of 10 indicated a maximal shift in incentive value toward valued coins, and 0 reflected no differentiation between valued and devalued coins.
That puts it well ahead of most radio receivers in terms of power consumption and sensitivity.
