Any lawsuits against the fast-food chains -- Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King and KFC -- would cite Proposition 65, a California law requiring manufacturers to warn consumers of toxic chemicals in their products.
"This review of evidence for the presence of consumer chemicals in indoor dust from the US confirms the substantial evidence for the presence of the same chemicals in dust from UK cars, homes, and offices, as well as school and nursery classrooms," he said.
Indeed, the microelectronics industry is a consumer of primary materials, chemical products, water and energy.
Nancy Buermeyer, senior policy strategist for the nonprofit Breast Cancer Fund, says that there is insufficient research on the effects of consumer chemicals.
"Consumers are absolutely afraid of chemicals," said Allyn Jones, product coordinator for the Whole Body collection.
Exposures at home can dominate total exposure for a variety of consumer product chemicals, including some flame retardants, phthalates, and pesticides.
Many consumer product chemicals of current and emerging health concern are classified as semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs), including flame retardants, phthalates, pesticides, and perfluorinated compounds.
The continued use of FRs with established health concerns and introduction of replacement FRs with limited data highlights the need to modernize U.S. chemical policies to require more complete disclosure and safety testing of consumer product chemicals prior to sale.
