A feeding trial was designed to cover a full reproductive cycle in young adult green abalone, Haliotis fulgens, consisting of five diet treatments: the macrophytic algal phaeophyte Egregia menziesii, rhodophyte Chondracanthus canaliculatus, chlorophyte Ulva lobata, a composite of the three algae and a starvation control.
To facilitate ecological comparisons, all ant species collected at TBS were assigned a position in a functional group matrix consisting of seven diet groups (which included elements of foraging behavior) and 11 nest-type groups (Table S4).
The main factor consisted of two diets designed to create two distinct scenarios: Normal and CLA-induced MFD (CLA-MFD, 30 g/d of CLA 29.9% trans−10, cis−12 CLA as methyl ester).
The experiment consisted of three diets: 1) basal diet; 2) basal diet + 250 ppm Laminarin (LAM); 3) basal diet + 250 ppm LAM + 80 ppm FUC (LAM/FUC).

The DSCA is a brief self-report questionnaire consisting of eleven items assessing general diet, specific diet, exercise, blood glucose testing, foot care and smoking [ 25]. – Social support received will be evaluated using the Diabetes Support Scale [ 26].
The experimental design was a factorial arrangement of treatments, consisting of four dietary regimens: A) Control diet (no YCW) plus anticoccidial vaccine); B) Control diet (no YCW) plus coccidiostat; C) YCW diet plus anticoccidial vaccination; and D) YCW diet plus coccidiostat [7 replicates (pens) of each group, for a total of 210 animals per treatment].
The four diets consisted of two low protein diets with either 20% ground corn (diet LP) or 13.5% ground corn plus 3% sucrose (diet LP sucrose) and two high protein diets with 13.5% corn and 3% sucrose with either urea (diet HP urea) or soybean meal (diet HP SBM) as supplemental rumen-degradable protein sources.
