A continuing education intervention consistent with the competency-based approach to education was designed and implemented in eight care units in two teaching hospitals.
Consistent with expectations, the competencies most directly related to patient care were rated the most important by practising pharmacists.
This competency questionnaire can be very simple, for example a set of multiple-choice question based on the competency statements with choices such as {unaware, familiar, productive, advanced} or any other set of value consistent with the way competencies are defined.
While progressive human resource management promotes participation, training and teamwork consistent with the identified management competencies, healthcare organizations do not always provide best practice HRM [ 40- 42], and the people side of management has often been ignored in the pursuit of health reform [ 43, 44].

These core competencies are fully consistent with the goals and purposes of psychologists as identified by the APA and CoA.
They are also consistent with Minimum Geriatrics Competencies for Medical Students defined by the 2007 Association of American Medical Colleges/John Hartford Foundation Consensus Conference [ 11], and quality of care indices as defined by the Assessing Care of Vulnerable Elders (ACOVE) project [ 12].
According to Le Boterf as reported in Brahimi [ 12] "the concept of competency has to be consistent with the changing contexts and situations in the workplace".
