GS_POP showed a considerable effect of marker density, already between 50 and 100 markers per Morgan, while W-FAM showed no significant effect of marker density on genetic gain until very low marker densities were tested.
As a consequence, when polymorphic genic-SSRs are identified in high value breeding lines they can have considerable utility for marker assisted selection (MAS) [ 21].
