A footnote: On the subject of horses and chickens living together, consider this wonderful quotation from Gilbert White's "The Natural History of Selborne".
For inspiration, read Elizabeth Barrett Browning's famous poem, "How Do I Love Thee?" and consider this Shakespeare quotation: "Love is not love/Which alters when it alteration finds" (Sonnet 116).
Consider what this quotation means in light of the current war on terrorism.
Consider the quotation "information wants to be free," a rallying catchphrase for the computer-adept and copyright foes.
"This is aristocratic and privileged irony — an aristocracy not of moneyed fathers but of generational ironic sensibility: 'I can speak with more quotation marks around my nouns and verbs than you.' " Rogers, a former Whiffenpoof, granted that it was "completely possible to consider this as unintended genius" — in other words, not many quotation marks at all.
If this were not convoluted enough, consider this: I've heard the Grahams say, as well as pray and not too infrequently, "Come, Lord Jesus, come quickly!" (a direct quotation from Revelation 22 20).
But even considering the quotation in full ("... by the books he reads, by the company he keeps, by the praise he gives, by his dress, by his tastes, by his distastes, by the stories he tells, by his gait, by the motion of his eye, by the look of his house" and so forth), it's obvious where Emerson's — and our — priorities lie.
While the criticism against the quotations seem sound considering this assertion, it negates the context of Virgil Abloh, a designer of clothing (his own label, Off-White, as well as Louis Vuitton men's), furniture, and other objects (this oeuvre will be put on display in his first major solo museum exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago come 2019).
