The results were used to elaborate the reliability framework of ISO 2394, and associated reliability levels are proposed for various consequence classes.
Based on the results, it has been found that for low and moderate consequence classes the calculated reliability indices are in better agreement with the recommendations of ISO 2394 standard and Joint Committee on Structural Safety than with the values recommended in EN 1990 2002 standard.

The problem with this is that it assumes finite consequence classes.
In Figure 4, membership functions of the consequence classes are depicted.

As a consequence, class developers face changeability, parallel development and comprehensibility problems, because they must be aware of aspects whenever they develop or maintain a class.
The output of each rule is calculated by the rule evaluation method (REM) and results are mapped to a consequence class c.
In order to decrease the complexity of the defuzification step, we determine the membership function of each consequence fuzzy class as an isosceles triangle whose abscissa value of its apex is equal to the θ value of the corresponding consequence class.
As shown in Table 1, θ value can be a number between 3 and 9, hence there are 7 consequence fuzzy classes.
where μ c f c r is the membership functions of the consequence fuzzy classes defined in Figure 4 and μ α f α r, μ β f β r and μ γ f γ r are the membership functions in the rule r corresponding to the fuzzy classes of the fuzzy variables for α, β and γ, respectively.
Table 1 shows the rule base of our fuzzy inference system (FIS), where the θ column corresponds to the output values of the rules which are calculated using the REM and the c column corresponds to the consequence fuzzy classes determined by the unique values of θ.
