We excluded patients unable to give informed consent or to communicate adequately, those with an absolute contra-indication for influenza vaccination (history of anaphylaxis from vaccine components) or with a history of prior laboratory-confirmed pH1N1-infection.
The inclusion criteria for individuals will be a diagnosis of IPF and receiving medical care for IPF at one of the three centres, as well as the ability to give informed consent and to communicate sufficiently to take part in an interview.
The family carer must be at least 18 years of age, able to provide informed consent and able to communicate in English.
