If D/2 (see Fig. 1) is the Wi-Fi AP communication range in meters, D + d will be the maximum distance between two cloudlets that allows a handover of MDs before the established MPTCP connection timeouts.
To guarantee that the new subflow is created before MPTCP connection timeouts, the minimum RTO value for MPTCP, i.e., 13 min (or 780 s) [25], is used to estimate the maximum distance between two cloudlet network regions before MPTCP retransmission timeout happens.
They reported that applications failed due to a variety of reasons: GridFTP failures during data transfer, file systems problems, file systems running out of disk space due to very large data transfers, connection timeouts from Globus WS-GRAM, compute node crashes, transient downtimes of core grid services.
We have, therefore, implemented robust general error detection and recovery methods within our framework (TextPipe) to help with unusual processing time, frequent crashes and other external problems, such as network connection timeouts or machine failures.
The time spent uploading the file, generating images, and performing computations would cause the connection to timeout.
The role of the RTO in the MPTCP is to give enough time for the MD to acquire a new IP address and to resume the data transfer from where it has stopped without reestablishment of a new TCP connection if the application timeout is longer (applications are configured with their own response waiting time).
Trying to import large dumps this way may result in timeouts or connection failures.
In the case of timeout, the network connection will be lost.
In cases where a worker (or set of workers) loses connection for a long period of time (a timeout value set by an administrator) the worker will be removed from the system.
