Large-diameter anchors are one of the important connection components in the reinforcement of industrial facilities.
In the article (Ahmed and Hasan, 2015), the effective geometrical properties of connections shown in Fig. 1 and Table 1 and mechanical properties of materials of connection components demonstrated in Table 2 are implemented to predict M θ r relations using proposed prediction model, three-parameter power model and FE analysis using ABAQUS (Ahmed 2002).
Adopting advanced numerical procedures, optimum results are obtained, regarding either combinations of connection components or existing steel frames, a fact validating the flexibility and applicability of the proposed method.
Traditional design of connections is limited to moment-rotation characteristics and the information about the deformation capacities of connection components is quite limited.
In the proposed model, the following issues are addressed: (i) the interaction between angles and bolts, (ii) failure criteria to determine the deformation capacities of connection components, and (iii) load limits due to bolt fracture.
