For me, switching out of the political horror story and into compassion requires a movement towards connectedness.
One of the advantages with ultrasound examinations is that it seems to improve women's connectedness and feelings towards the fetus [ 30, 31].
In other words, they are pushed away from intrinsic values such as empathy, connectedness and kindness, and towards extrinsic values such as power, fame and status.
The former result implies that it is possible to lead a non-strongly connected network towards strong connectedness by adding intermediary agents to serve as hops between two nodes that are out of range from each other.
Or could it be the other way around, that switching into connectedness requires a movement towards compassion?
Preliminary but promising results regarding higher levels of social connectedness and a trend towards decreased feelings of hopelessness were found in a study about the evaluation of the impact of a relationship-based intervention among homeless youth [ 29].
High connectedness was therefore a factor contributing towards preferential retention.
The first part of her study uses a daily diary design in which patients and their partners each complete surveys (include reports of feelings and expressions of gratitude directed towards their partner, feelings of connectedness and intimacy, positive and negative emotions, and FOR) twice daily for 10 consecutive days.
