For the congruent audiovisual group, audiovisual trials always contained congruent directions across modalities (leftward auditory motion); for the incongruent multisensory group, audiovisual trials always contained opposing visual and auditory directions (rightward auditory motion).
If large RFs of CSv result from combining inputs from earlier visual motion processing stages, it is conceivable that dissimilar directions inhibit each other or that RFs are built by combining congruent directions only.

24 of these 25 genes showed congruent direction of change in genome- and transcript-aligned reads.
Only 25 genes were common to both alignments, but 96% of the 215 had congruent direction of change and correlation between genome- and transcript-aligned fold-change was 0.73.
Adapting to 25° right or left gaze produced a striking reduction in correct detection of 10° gaze in the congruent direction relative to 10° gaze in the incongruent direction (t(13) = 12.14, p < 0.0001).
We predicted that if these different gaze directions are coded by separate STS cell populations, then adapting to one or the other gaze direction should produce reduced activation to probe faces gazing in the congruent direction (e.g., adapt left-probe left) relative to probes with incongruent gaze (e.g., adapt left-probe right).
If we include simple ortholog groups where both orthologs are detected as differentially expressed (cFDR = 0.01), but one or the other, or even both have fold changes < 3, then we identify 222 ortholog groups in total that are differentially expressed in a congruent direction, and 51 that are differentially expressed in divergent directions across the two phytopathogens (Additional File 2).
There is often a contradiction between profit maximization and other strategic, behavioral, tax and regulatory considerations which themselves point in non-congruent directions for structuring the alliance.
Note that within the seven conditions only V represents a standard visuomotor mapping, where eye and hand movements were congruent in direction and plane.
In Jha et al. [ 119], the authors utilized the "attentional network test" (ANT), where in each trial, participants are presented with an arrow target that is surrounded by distractor arrows that point in either the same direction (congruent flankers) or a different direction (incongruent flankers) as the target.
To introduce the conflict effect, the target (center arrow) is flanked on either side by two arrows of the same direction (congruent condition), or of the opposite direction (incongruent condition).
