Root pressure, in plants, force that helps to drive fluids upward into the water-conducting vessels (xylem).
The development of patterns during cell-wall growth depends not only on the cytoplasmic microtubules, as in the construction of the cells that will give rise to the water-conducting vessels (xylem elements), but also on cytoplasmic membranes, as in the formation of sievelike end walls (sieve plates) in the cells that will give rise to food-conducting vessels (phloem elements).
It is a fungus disease; the organism invades the water-conducting vessels of the tree, spreads by spores carried in the flow of sap, and, by mechanical clogging and also by poisons it secretes, causes the branches to wilt and the tree to die.

The cross sections of these bagasse fibers show that their conducting vessels contain lumens with two distinct size distributions: two lumens with a wider diameter, indicated by D in Figure 2a, and many lumens with narrower diameters.
The one closed organ, called the dorsal vessel, extends from the hind end through the thorax to the head; it is a continuous tube with two regions, the heart or pumping organ, which is restricted to the abdomen, and the aorta, or conducting vessel, which extends forward through the thorax to the head.
