M. conformis seems to tolerate a broader range of ecological conditions nesting in sunny and shaded environments of sand dunes and the workers are active during the day and night (Cardoso, pers. obs).. Yet, M. simplex exclusively nests in sunny sand dune places and its workers are active only during dusk and overnight [ 65].
For P1 expression analyses of inbred and landraces lines under control and UV- B conditions, nested RT-PCR was performed as previously described [ 54].
