Records were matched to health districts within the Top End region using the individual's postcode recorded at the time of testing and 2006 postal area concordance files available from the Australian Bureau of Statistics ABSS) [ 16] and the NT Health Department's Health Gains Planning Branch HGPP) [ 17].
Population figures for the region were used for the prevalence denominator, taken from yearly ABS Estimated Resident Population ERPP) figures [ 18] and mapped to NT health districts using HGP population concordance files [ 17].
These three data sets, referred to hereafter as MacKayData, AravaData, and IngoliaData are noteworthy in that they are highly concordant (Concordance.pdf in File S1 and File S2).
The TaqMan assay performed on 1 ng of genomic DNA revealed no failure of amplification (100% call rate) and optimum genotype concordance (Additional file 1).
Growth tests in hypertonic broth and at 42°C allowed for the presumptive identification of 14 C. dubliniensis and 76 C. albicans isolates, and ITS sequencing confirmed the identification of these two species, indicating 100% concordance (Additional file 2: Table S2).
