Through the case studies it has been identified that there are three fibre related waste outputs captured: dry fibres, fibre material sheet off-cuts, and curried composite off-cuts.
The episodes prompted regulators around the world to ground the innovative planes, which use lightweight carbon composites to cut fuel costs, until Boeing made the batteries more fireproof.
Already, there is some progress: the Boeing 747-800, willh will enter service in 2009, is 16% more fuel efficient than its predecessor, while the 787 "Dreamliner", which enters service next May, uses light carbon composites to cut fuel use by 20% compared with the 767, and 70% compared with the 727 launched in 1963.
But while Boeing needed to take radical steps, like molding the entire fuselage of the Dreamliner out of the plastic composites to cut fuel costs by 20 percent, it can achieve similar fuel savings on the 777 by using advanced engines and adding huge composite wings to a metal frame.
